Surfing

Lakesea Caravan Park, located at South Durras, is an ideal base for surfers of all levels. Beginners will find protected areas around Durras with smaller, manageable waves, while experienced surfers can enjoy uncrowded, high-quality reef, beach, and point breaks that are sure to impress.

The park is only a short stroll from one of the most consistently surfable beaches on the South Coast. Durras Beach is an open stretch that picks up swell from any direction, offering consistent banks that are often left untouched.

From Broulee (20 minutes south of Batemans Bay) to Durras, you’ll discover over 100 beaches and breaks, each firing under different swell and wind conditions. Beaches closer to Batemans Bay, such as Malua Bay, are more sheltered, but on bigger days you can find epic waves at classic breaks like Mackenzies, Rosedale, Tomakin River Mouth, Pink Rocks, Broulee, and Moruya Wall. Local knowledge is the key to unlocking some of the area’s secret surf spots.

With dramatic mountain backdrops, untouched sand, and crystal-clear water, a paddle-out here is truly unforgettable. Water temperatures range between 16–22°C depending on the season. Surf conditions shift year-round, with north-easterly winds common in summer and southerlies in winter. Winter also tends to bring larger southerly swells for those chasing big-wave action.

Lakesea Park is situated right on Durras Beach, with an average climate of around 25°C in summer and 18°C in winter—making swimming and surfing great all year round.
